Mission

The Baby Corner provides items necessary for the health and safety of babies and toddlers living in poverty.

"To serve the immediate and unmet physical needs of infants and children living in poverty in the greater Seattle-King County area."

In cooperation with professional service providers, we assess needs and distribute such essential items as formula, diapers, and car seats. All donations go directly to those in need; nothing is sold. Unique among community resources, the Baby Corner responds immediately and specifically to the needs of the most vulnerable children in our community. We are a nonsectarian charity and serve individuals and families in need, regardless of cultural, ethnic, national, or religious background.

For those interested, the Baby Corner's most recent annual report is now available.

What happens when there is no money for diapers, a car seat, or a place for a newborn to sleep?

"I am a single mom who is currently in a treatment center and had nothing for my baby. So it made me very happy when a nurse brought me the bag you had gotten together for me. Now I am excited to deliver soon. Thank you very, very much!"

St. Joseph’s Baby Corner often receives calls from service providers in urgent situations, or when there is no place else to turn. Founded in 1988, the Baby Corner helps “plug the gap” left by public assistance programs. Such programs provide subsidies for food but not for diapers, bottles, detergent, car seats, portacribs, digital thermometers, and other vital health and safety items.

Each year nurses and social workers make more than 800 visits to the Baby Corner to pick up donated and purchased goods that are valued at more than $600,000. For the most part, we know what to expect when they call. But on occasion, the request is extraordinary. READ MORE
